Are DIY Wills legal?

Yes, DIY Wills are legal—as long as they meet your state’s requirements. Please refer to our "How to Make Your Wills & Trusts Valid in Your State" article to find out how to make your state's specific legalization requirements

Most online Wills, including those created with GoodTrust, are valid if they are printed, signed by hand, and properly witnessed.

However, handwritten Wills (also called holographic Wills) are more likely to be rejected, even with witnesses. That's why GoodTrust provides professionally formatted, typed Wills to help ensure your wishes are legally recognized.

If your estate is especially complex or you have a high-conflict family situation, you may still want to consult with an attorney.
